TEAPOT 2 X EGG CUPS IN SAUCERS, 2 x RICHMOND CUPS/SAUCERS/PLATES, 1 xSUGAR BOWL, MILK JUG AND SERVING PLATE. When describing Shelley the words'traditional, elegance and pretty' often come to mind and this very rare complete English Breakfast-for-2 set is a very special example of why that is. T his is the ever popular and much collected'Wild Flowers' pattern. And it comprises several very hard to find pieces including a small sought after 4-cup teapot and two egg cups with drip saucers. Everything is here for a traditional English breakfast with egg cups and drip saucers for boiled eggs and a serving plate for toast or fried egg and bacon or cold meats.

It also works well if having breakfast alone (see image 11). Like so many of the Shelley patterns it is evocative of an English Summer, offering a taste of the countryside rather than the traditional cottage garden. It features a delicate pastel blue trim, which delightfully complements a theme of bright and lavish traditional English wild flowers found in meadows and on grass verges. Strictly speaking, it may be better to describe Shelley sets like this as matched rather than exactly matching because although the pieces appear identical, and have the same Shelley backstamps, there are sometimes minor and subtle variations in the floral displays featured. Wild Flowers' is designed as a'mix and match' pattern and it may be that this is how the original owner bought them, or damaged pieces were replaced, or, more likely, the set was added to.

Our images, however, reflect well the common floral themes through the set. All are modeled in delicate English fine bone china. DETAILS (all measurements are approx) 1 x tea pot (4 cups). 2 x egg cups standing 2.5in/6cm tall. 2 x Richmond shape footed cups measuring approx.

3.5in/9cm across the rim and standing 2.5in/6.5cm tall. 4 saucers with a diameter of 5.75in/14.5cm. 2 plates with a diameter of 6in/15cm 1 x eared oval serving plate for toast, meats or egg and bacon measuring 10in/25.5cm at its widest point. The jug is 2.75in/7cm tall and the sugar bowl stands 2.5in/6cm with a lip to lip diameter of nearly 4in/10cm at its widest point.

The total weight is approx 2kg. The style of the main Shelley back stamp, common to all the pieces, dates it to between 1940 and 1966 and the pattern number is 13668 and all carry the additional fushia stamp with the name of the pattern'Wild Flowers' (image 6 and 15).

Condition: This is a surviving example of early post-War Shelley and probably 60+ years old. It has obviously been well looked-after because it remains in remarkably good condition and there is little if any evidence of use...

It's probably spent most of its life in a display cabinet. It retains its bright colouring and healthy glaze and it's a wonderful bonus and very rare to have a teapot in excellent condition because they often suffer damaged spouts and lids. We've checked over all the pieces in bright natural light from all angles and we cannot see any chips or cracks. There are just a few of the usual specs of firing grit in the glaze here and there and i. F the plates are held at a particular angle to the light there may be the hint of a few knife knife marks. It's difficult to tell. But it relies on buyers wishing to do the same. Shelley is hot and scarce...
