Gorham Silver Teapot c1859 PRESIDENT LINCOLN SET
GORHAM SILVER COFFEE POT c1859 PRESIDENT LINCOLN TEA SET A fine, and very rare c1859 Gorham silver teapot. Displaying one of the firm's most rare hallmarks. Lion facing left, anchor, Gothic G and the word COIN. This mark used only one year 1859. This is the identical hallmark on the President Abe Lincoln tea service, now displayed in the Smithsonian.
The teapot in squat pear shape with distinctive "pinched" scalloped. Rim with hand decorated feathered leaf in the channels. Conforming pavilion cover with slender raised panel flutes atop.
Repeating scale on satin ground, retains the original. Spread leaf and flower finial, and original fastener below. Naturalistic, hand chased satin surface branch form handle and spout. With bud, leaf and vine accents. The body hand decorated with life like Cala Lilly displays, with folded leaf.
Made a similar teapot in sterling, though never with the. Hallmarked with lion facing left, anchor, G and COIN. Hand engraved 1858 presentation as shown.
