This is what I "believe" to be a Chinese Export Silver Tea Set which includes the teapot, a sugar dish and a creamer. I have searched high and low and can find no markings on any of these pieces. According to the website "chinese-export-silver", Chinese silver produced prior to the late 18th century was often unmarked.
The Tientsin and the Shanghai 9 Factories silversmiths were the most consistent in their marking, but unlike their Canton counterparts, it was purely in Chinese ideogrammatic form. The degree of conformity of the marks was more a product of happenstance, rather than by any conscious collaborative agreement. I have no idea if this set falls under that category or not. I do know early Silver pieces in many countries were not always marked. I can tell you that it is beautiful and the craftsmanship is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I have Silver polish, but specifically chose not to polish this set because I want it to be done by a professional collector of items like this.I didn't want to take the chance of over-polishing or damaging the set in any way. As you can see, there is a place for a monogram, but this set is NOT monogrammed which is awesome! I have tried to use different backdrops and different lighting so that you can see how beautiful this set is. I'm going to just have to hope that the pictures speak for themselves and that if you are a collector of this kind of silver, you will know the quality of what you are looking at. If you want more pictures, please let me know and I will take them and send them to you ASAP.
If anyone on here has more information they would like to pass along to me, I would be glad to update this listing. The pieces weigh 878 grams or almost 2 pounds all together. Please see all of the pictures (they are a part of my description as well) and ask questions. I will get back to you ASAP. Thank you so much for looking.
