Puiforcat is well known for being Art Deco at its very best. During this period, the French were leading the field in terms of silver design and innovation. Puiforcat was an individual artist at the heart of a scene that included some of the great French silver companies such as Orfevrerie Christofle. With his sleek lines and abstract geometric forms Puiforcat's designs epitomized the subdued elegance of Art Deco. Silver design during this period was characterized by innovative use of materials and by experimentation with different techniques.
The resulting forms were bold and radical even for traditional items such as tea services, cutlery and boxes. Some of his best work was with highly original tea services in which his Modernist designs took simple forms crafted in a combination of materials such as polished silver surfaces alongside ivory and semi-precious stones.
