HAMMERSLEY hand painted with maiden hair ferns in a basket TEAPOT SET c. We have, what we believe to be, an amazing H & Co. HAMMERSLEY hand painted Victorian tea set for you today! This 3 piece porcelain set is absolutely beautiful with it's faux basket weave bottoms painted in the softest sea foam green.
This set looks like each piece is perfectly nestled inside a Porcelain basket. The top portion of each piece is made of the brightest white Porcelain, and we'd be surprised to learn any were used as we do not see any discoloration or staining on either the insides or outsides. Each piece has been meticulously hand painted with maiden hair ferns in Kelly green.
We see touchings, almost as if it was rubbed on, of gold along the edges, handles, spout and rims, so lovely! This set is so unique, we have not seen another even close to it! The pieces are all marked on the bottoms with both a green stamp H & Co.These look to read; R in the center, 26 on top, IV above that in a circle, Y on the right, M on the bottom and perhaps O or D on the left. This would indicate that these were made of ceramic, Porcelain, in England on the 26th of June, 1879. The oval teapot looks like it is nestled in a basket with it's wide flat handle and spout peaking through the side. It measures roughly 9" long, 5 3/4" tall and 6 wide. We do not see any cracks, chips or repairs.
The glazing is still shiny in many areas. The covered sugar's rounded oval shape is quite unique along with its rounded tab handles and measures roughly 7 3/4" long, 3 5/8" tall and 5 3/8 wide. We do not see any cracks, chips or repairs on this item either.
The creamer has a unique shape to it, slightly pinched in on the sides yet still oval to match its partners and measures roughly 5 1/2" wide, 4 3/4" tall and 3 1/4 wide. We do see a small flake on the outside of the pouring lip, please see photos. No other chips, cracks or repairs that we can identify. As lovely as these items are, please keep in mind all three pieces are from 1879, the prior owners have obviously kept them in safe keeping! This set is truly remarkable and one not to pass by, surely one can only imagine when or if something of this beauty and age will come up again!Don't let it get away!
