Haviland Porcelain Tea Pot with Lid Varenne New York Pattern 1958 Dinnerware. DESCRIPTION: This beautiful Haviland tea pot in the Varenne pattern is an example of the quality known by Haviland. This pretty tea pot is made of white porcelain, the spout underside and top of the handle is painted in gold.

The Varenne design gracefully drapes swages of pink roses with green leaf around and below the scalloped rim of the tea pot; and 8 gold accents added at to the rim The lid of this elegant tea pot is draped in swages of pink roses and green leaf pattern, with eight gold accents; the top of the finial is painted in gold and a small hole in the lid for air access. The inside of the pot has a built-in strainer on the inner edge of the spout. This lovely tea pot is in excellent condition; there are no chips, cracks, repairs; minor wear to the gold. There are several manufacture marks 1 known as Mark T, Theodore Haviland New York inside a scalloped oval, over the glaze in red and black.

2 MADE IN AMERICA, over the glaze, in black. 3 Varenne, over the glaze, in red.

4 63 and B-6, over the glaze in gold, circa 1940s-1956. The pattern was made 1940s-1980.

David Haviland was an American businessman from New York dealing with porcelain. He was also key in adopting a new process by which to decorate porcelain pieces developed in 1873. In 1890, David Haviland's son, Theodore Haviland, built a very large and prominent factory in Limoges and introduced a variety of new processes for firing and decorating porcelain pieces.
