Circa 1865 Aesthetic or Moderne Gothic Victorian four piece silverplate tea set, Rogers, Smith & Co, New Haven, Con, design-1883 (1862-66), two-tone matte (stippled) and gloss surface, cartouche/panels with engraved tassels and wheat sprigs, obverse panel-peacock with raised feathers in the form of a lyre, paneled and stepped rims, tall leaf finial lids, pedestal bases, mother of pearl handle heat insulators, angled and scroll handles and paneled spouts, An early electro/silverplate set. Coffee pot 6 pint, 12 tall, 9.5 spout to handle. Minor dent on peacock, loss to one final leaf.

Tea pot 5 pint, 11 tall, 9 spout to handle. Dent on side of base/photo8. Large covered sugar 10.25 tall, 7.25 across handles. Minor dents/three on sides, silver loss on gloss panels.

Tall creamer 6.5 tall, 6 spot to handle. Condition original surface, shows some silver loss, minor dents described above are not highly noticeable. The RS&Co, New Haven plant continued to 1866 continuing to use RS&Co marks 1862-66. Henry Mead was an instrumental mover in American silverplate manufacturing when he brought electroplating technology after a visit to Birmingham, England. RS&Co was one of the many partnerships of William Rogers, which included Rogers Bros, 1847. The four pieces are identical, with three marked RS&Co and the creamer marked Meriden Co. This combination conceivably dates to the transition period of 1868 or 1869. This is great steampunk motif for the contemporary decorators using this motif with angle/scroll handles, vented panels on rims and spouts, and cogged rims.
